The WhatsNext verdict

Morphblade is a superb compact strategy puzzle for players who enjoy spatial tactics, emergent tile combinations, and restarting to solve one more board. Its exceptional core is real, but its modest content ceiling makes it better as a concentrated bite than a forever game.

What it does best

  • A brilliantly clean weapon-as-terrain idea

  • Every turn is a spatial combat puzzle

  • A tiny ruleset with surprising strategic depth

  • The restart button is dangerously tempting

What might put you off

  • Too little content around the excellent core

  • Opaque or punishing edge cases

The setup

What you are walking into

In Morphblade you move around a grid slicing, smashing and bursting waves of nasty red bugs. Each tile you move to transforms you into a different weapon: on a Blades hex you can slice enemies on either side of you, on an Arrow you can launch yourself through two enemies in a row.
