The WhatsNext verdict

If you want a compact, character-focused RPG built around time travel, memorable music, and replayable endings, Chrono Trigger delivers unusually well. Players seeking highly tactical combat may find its battles too routine, especially over a full replay.

  • Storytelling unlike anything else

What might put you off

  • The Steam version’s presentation and technical issues

  • Menu-driven combat can feel repetitive
